J&K Tops The Country With 80600 Teachers Trained On Nishtha

LG stresses need for capacity building of teachers to ensure quality education

SRINAGAR: The Department of School Education, Jammu and Kashmir, has topped the country with some 80600 elementary teachers trained on the online platform, Nishtha, launched by the Ministry of Education, government of India.

The Lieutenant Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha, after reviewing the functioning of the School Education Department disclosed this in a meeting held here recently.

“Reviewed School Education Department’s functioning. J&K tops the country under NISHTHA programme; 80600 Elementary Teachers Trained through online mode,” Sinha tweeted on Wednesday, July 6.

In another tweet, Sinha called for capacity building of teachers, improving quality of education and enhancing the learning outcomes.

Expressing her gratitude to the LG J&K and Principal Secretary School Education Department, B.K. Singh, Director SCERT, Prof Veena Pandita, thanked the teaching community and other stakeholders to make the program a success.

“The acknowledgement at the highest level in the administration is a morale booster for all of us to work dedicatedly under difficult conditions,” Pandita said. “I personally thank the teachers, heads of institutions, coordinators, technical staff who participated in all the programs wholeheartedly.”

Pandita also thanked Ravi Kumar and Leenus Roffin from the team Dikhsha, Joint Director CIET/ NCERT Dr Amrinder Behra, State Coordinator Peerzada Bashir Ahmad, State Technical Admin Riyaz Ahmad Reshi, State IT Experts Javed Hassan Sofi and Sajad Akbar Rather and media in charge Rohi Sultana for their efforts to make the first phase of the Nishtha training programme a success.

Nishtha, an acronym for National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement, is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Education at the elementary stage under Samagra Shiksha.

The unprecedented disruption of education, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic affected more than 90% of the school population including teacher training prompting the Ministry of Education to come up with many elaborate programmes to ensure continuity of learning through various digital platforms.
